Mercedes-Benz launched the petrol variant of its top of the line SUV in India GLE 400 priced at Rs 74.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) on 25th August 2016.
German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz plans to offer petrol variants for all its models sold in India by one month from now so as to adjust to the demand shift following instability over diesel vehicles in the wake of pollution concerns.
“The introduction of the GLE 400 in petrol is part of our product strategy to strengthen our petrol portfolio in the SUV segment. We plan to offer petrol variants in all our products by September and give the customers an additional option to choose from,” Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director & CEO Roland Folger told PTI.
Stating that the company has seen the share of its petrol portfolio rising continually, he said the introduction of the GLE 400 will add to that.
The Mercedes GLE 400 petrol comes on the back of negative assessments towards large diesel-fueled vehicles. Mercedes-Benz claims that the SUV segment has been the quickest developing segment for the company in the previous two years, which is also evident in the customers’ inclination among the company’s portfolio.
The anti-diesel conditions have incited the German luxury automaker to introduce a petrol engine in its SUV for the first time in India. The engine is matched with a standard 7G-Tronic automatic transmission with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. It additionally accompanies Harman Kardon Logic 7 Surround sound system, which is perfect with Apple CarPlay.
The Mercedes GLE 400 keeps up with the alternate variants in terms of features incorporating full LED headlamps with an intelligent light system, sunroof, LED taillights, mirror package with brand logo projection, Active Parking Assist with a 360-degree camera and much more.
Safety highlights incorporate six airbags, ABS, EBD, and innovations like Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Brake Assist.
The GLE SUV now has four variants in India – GLE 250d, GLE 350d, GLE 400 and the AMG GLE 450 Coupe.
In Mumbai, the new GLE 400 will be accessible at Shaman Wheels which has a set up of the modern facility at Kalina with a 7,200 sq. ft. showroom & a 15,000 sq. ft. state-of-art workshop.
